At the intersection of Fine Arts & Graphic Design, Shim's works playfully articulate stumbled-upon coincidences and cross-cultural experiences. A graduate from Cornell University's BFA program, she participated in Scholastic's Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Residency 2011 and Brooklyn Art Space Recent Graduate Residency 2012 for painting. She was awarded the Korean Government Scholarship 2012-2015. While living abroad in Korea, she has received an MFA in Visual Communication Design and taught design courses at Hongik University and Seoul National University. She was an Artist in Residence 2017 at the School of Visual Art's RisoLAB. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
